Zhejiang Provincial People’s Hospital, subordinated to Public Health Bureau of Zhejiang province, and a teaching hospital of Zhejiang University medical school, is now one of the largest scale general hospital in our province. It merges medical treatment, scientific research, medical education, prevention and health care into an organic whole. She was awarded as provincial civilized hospital in 1989 by Zhejiang Public Health Bureau, and had passed the judgement on state class A grade III hospital in 1993.She was also appraised as one of the state top hundred hospitals in 1998, and an advanced group of national health care system in 1999. There are 8 provincial centers linked to us, including Zhejiang provincial emergency command center, clinical examination center, radiologic quality control center, etc.

The hospital began to build in 1978, and set up in 1984.registered beds1560. The hospital has 5 provincial key departments including cardio-chest surgery, general surgery, mini-invasive surgery, intensive care unit and radiology, and 2 provincial key laboratories, including gastroenterology and organ transplantation key laboratories (heart transplantation branch). More than a hundred achievements in scientific research passed the appraisal and awarded, among them 2 subjects awarded as grade I provincial scientific research.

Cardio-chest surgery department did first case of heart transplantation in June 19, 1997. The patient is still living and healthy. Combined heart and kidney transplantation was carried out on April 27,2001. Patient is the longest survival in Asia. Heart transplantation (including heart and kidney) was appraised as the state advanced level. Besides that, the Hospital also carried out kidney, umbilical blood, bone marrow and corneal transplantation. General surgery department was the first to do laparoscopy. The number of patients underwent laparoscopy reached more than 20,000,and the disease entity need laparoscopy reached to more than 20. It is appraised as the advanced subject in Zhejiang Province. Meantime, ‘three-fold consecutive therapy’ was first used to treat gastric carcinoma. It had increased significantly the overall survival rate of the patients. Orthopedics department is the first in our province to use arthroscopy, artificial joint replacement, lumbar intervertebroscopy to treat arthropathy and lumbar lordosis with a good response. Neurosurgery department treat patients with various, high risk brain tumors, arteriovenous deformity, and resection of brain tumor by mini-invasive method. These were appraised by persons of same occupation. Cardiac physicians used international far advanced cardio-electrophysiologic assessment system to treat auricular flutter, auricular fibrillation, persistent ventricular premature beat and other complicated irregular heart heat. This type of treatment has reached state advanced level.

Hospital possesses 3.0 T superhigh field magnetic resonance (MR), multiple spiral CT, Gamma knife, linear accelerator, digital subtraction angiography(DSA),cardio-electro physiologic assessment system (Ensit 3000),colored Doppler ultrasonography, hyperbaric oxygen chamber for 10 persons, laser in situ keratomileusis(LASIK),flow cytometer (FCM), polymerase chain reaction(PCR) and the others, nearly one hundred advanced apparatus, and had established first rank Zhejiang provincial organ transplantation key research laboratory(heart transplantation sub-laboratory),Zhejiang gastroenterology key laboratory, intensive care unit and central laboratory. These are the fundamental bases for getting accurate diagnosis of the complicated cases and for bringing forth new ideas in scientific research field.
